Summary
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for providing support to the operations team, managing single-use systems engineering projects, ensuring timelines and cost targets are met, while applying scientific approaches to maximize equipment utilization. Collaboration with various departments on equipment requirements, and overseeing the procurement, installation, and validation of new equipment. The position is at the Castlebar, Co.Mayo facility and will report to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These include the following, others may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Maximise manufacturing process performance and cleanroom layout through leading effective implementation of suitable problem-solving tools and lean initiatives & methodologies.
- Manage single-use systems engineering projects to ensure that initiatives are met, timelines are adhered to, associated costs targets are achieved, etc.
- Apply a scientific approach to problem solving, combining analytical and experimental skills to track and maximise equipment utilisation e.g. Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Work with operations, machine build shop, facilities and EH&S on equipment requirements and/or sourcing suitable equipment from outside providers.
- Analyze current manufacturing processes, identify inefficiencies or improvements, and develop strategies to address them.
- Attend new equipment design reviews and provide recommendations for ease of operation, maintenance and robustness of design.
- Manage procurement, installation and startup of new processes and equipment.
- Manage testing and validation of critical equipment and processes.
- Supports the Quality department via creation of SOPs, assisting with deviation or excursion responses, testing and analysis, etc.
- Responsible for maintaining Production SOP’s.
- Liaise with maintenance department to define maintenance SOPs and schedule work orders on PM system.
- Provides product support for single-use systems production.
- Train operators on the use of new equipment and procedures.
- Assist in ensuring designs are manufactured accurately to developed specifications.
- Facilitates new Single Use System product design implementation.
- Promotes efficient and ergonomic manufacturing techniques.
- Interfaces with and offers continuous improvement support for the MES/ERP systems.
- Creates support documentation including process flows.
- Work with operators/leads/supervisors to identify areas of improvement on existing equipment. Prepares drawings for equipment modification using 2-D and 3-D CAD software.
- Assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repair of equipment as needed.
- Ensure that all Engineering work and designs are carried out to appropriate Environmental Health and Safety standards.
Qualifications, Education & Experience

- Bachelor's Level 8 Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years industry experience is essential.
- Must be Proficient with MS Office software including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Experience with cleanroom manufacturing is beneficial.
- Experience working in a regulated industry is beneficial.
- Project leading / management experience is beneficial.
- Jig and Fixture design experience required.
- 3D Printing experience is beneficial.
- Demonstrate a motivated & flexible approach to work with a results-oriented attitude.
- Must have strong English Language written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands
Occasional work may be done in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom environment. Powder free gloves, face masks, hairnets, gowns, and shoe covers must be worn. Because smokers continue to shed thousands of smoke particles even hours after smoking a cigarette and these particles will damage our products, only non-smokers are permitted to enter or work in the cleanroom. As a result, the successful candidate must be a nonsmoker.
